Our Story
Forever Changed
On May 6th, 2013 our lives changed forever. My husband, Joel, and I found out we were expecting not one precious soul, but two. Never in our wildest dreams did we expected this. Still in our first year of marriage and naïve about what it meant to be parents, we were excited and shocked. I remember joking with Joel as we went to our first ultrasound saying, “Watch, we are probably having twins!” Sure enough, two thriving, tiny tadpoles fluttered on the ultrasound monitor. I was just over nine weeks pregnant.
It wasn’t until weeks later that the reality of a high-risk pregnancy sank in. With a due date of December 9th, 2013, we found ourselves fighting daily to keep our healthy twins from a premature delivery. At 20 weeks gestation, I was hospitalized on bedrest for unexplained preterm labor until I delivered.
On August 20th, 2013 at 24 weeks and 1 day, Hunter Troy and Grace Marie were born, each weighing 1lb 8oz and measuring 12.5 inches. We found ourselves solely focused on our babies and nothing else as they fought for their fragile lives. Devastatingly, at just 10 days old, our son Hunter gained his wings. We were broken and left with one child still fighting for her life, while planning a funeral for the other. Through the love and support from our family we were able to direct most of our attention to Grace. As a young couple establishing roots, the cost of living, medical bills and funeral expenses were very stressful in a time when our hearts were hurting. We never fathomed needing to purchase a grave marker for our own child.
Hunter’s Grace was born from the love and passion of our parents. It is our desire to provide families with a stress free, simple process to honor their infant child through the donation of a grave marker. While our hearts move forward but never forget, it is our prayer that our son’s legacy lives on.
